$110.00 – $174.00
Semester 1: 29th-1st October
Ahoy Sailors,
Get excited because this is the big one!! No semester at UQ is complete without hitting Moreton Island, so prepare for probably the best long weekend of your life!! It is an incredible weekend of camping, sailing, swimming, snorkelling, sunbathing, and partying!
Rhys likes hotdogs.
So, The details!
We will sail to Moreton Island on Friday, the 24th of March. You’ll catch the short ferry across Moreton Bay to the peaceful and secluded paradise of the Wrecks at Moreton. Sail and explore the island on your terms, surf the nearby dunes, snorkel the wrecks, and don’t forget to join the rest of the crew for a sunset beach party! Then, we head back to Brisbane on Sunday, the 26th.
So that you know, you don’t need to know how to sail to go out on a boat! This trip is for ALL sailing experience levels! We will take turns sailing off the beach; every boat comes with an experienced skipper!
Tickets:
First Release: $149
Second Release: $179
Third Release: $199

You must have a valid swim certificate issued by UQSPORT before attending the event. You can obtain a certificate from the UQ pool on any Tuesday or Thursday between 10 am – 12 pm or any Sunday between 1 pm – 2 pm. This is a compulsory requirement for all UQ water sports and requires you to swim 400m (untimed) and tread water for 2 minutes, supervised by a lifeguard. Please call ahead to ensure they are running it before you show up on the day. Please be aware if you have not done the swim assessment, you are not allowed to sail. Once you have completed it, please provide your details here: http://uqsail.com/swim-assessment/
A confirmation email with further details will be sent out closer to the weekend.
Experience is optional. We have experienced skippers who attend and are happy to show you the ropes.
Make sure you fill out your dietary requirements when purchasing your ticket otherwise you can update it in your membership profile.
We try our best to consider your dietary requirements but cannot cater to those with specific nutritional needs outside vegetarianism. For most trips, we will send out the meal plan before the trip to help you plan the required substitutions. If you have selected nothing, we assume you have no specific dietary requirements.
The ferry leaves from the MICAT Ferry terminal here. There is another ferry, the Tangalooma ferry, which departs from here but that ferry terminal on Moreton is approximately a 30-minute walk to the campground as opposed to the 1-minute for the MICAT Ferry.
The advantage of the Tangalooma ferry is it has later services available. If you plan on catching the Tangalooma ferry, please email us as the Moreton ticket includes the MICAT Ferry, not the Tangalooma. We will organise a refund of that portion of the ticket cost for you. It is then your responsibility to purchase a ticket for the ferry.

There are a couple of options for getting to each terminal:
– There is NO public transport to either terminal but are stops close by. This option would be to catch public transport as close as possible and then transfer with a taxi or uber.
– Drive there, but you need to make sure you organise parking as there is generally no street parking available.
– Catch a taxi or uber straight to the terminal.
– Purchase the bus ticket with the event.
