Varsity Program

Designed for those who have previous sailing experience or have completed levels 1 and 2 of a learn to sail program. Training takes place once to twice per week, one weekday afternoon and a Saturday or Sunday. Regular regattas and opportunities to enter into local, state, and national competitions will be available. The program will focus on individual sailors' tactics and boat handling progression. Spaces are minimal, so make sure to sign up early.


What dates does the program run?

Training starts the first week of the semester and runs for ten weeks, excluding the mid-semester break. Exact schedules will go out after the signup cut off date.


Where does the program run?

The program will be run at two locations, on campus on the Brisbane river and the second at Humpybong Yacht Club. Depending on regatta locations, additional travel may be required.


What the program includes:

  • Lifejackets and boat equipment 
  • Ongoing coaching on and off the water
  • On the water safety boat
  • Training review and development
  • Opportunity to compete at state and national levels
  • Team uniform

Not included

  • Racing membership
  • Additional safety gear outside a lifejacket
  • Outside regatta entry fees

Program fee

  • $850 for the 10-week semester program
  • A valid UQSC racing membership ($280 per year)

  • Clothes you don't mind getting wet in
  • A towel & a change of warm clothes
  • Closed-toe water shoes 
  • Recommended in winter: a wetsuit/thermal top as the water temperature gets cooler.
